The Saudi Electricity Company (SEC), under the supervision of the Ministry of Energy, has signed a major Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with several key energy companies, including Kazakhstan Electricity Grid Operating Company, the National Electric Grid of Uzbekistan, and Azerenerji. The agreement, signed at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29) in Azerbaijan, highlights SEC’s dedication to enhancing regional cooperation and integrating renewable energy across borders.
The signed MoU focuses on improving efficiency and facilitating renewable energy integration through the Green Corridor regional interconnection transmission projects. These projects span the Black Sea and Caspian Sea regions, aiming to boost efficiency and support energy collaboration among the participating countries.
The agreement also highlights the exploration of joint investment opportunities for interconnection projects across the region. By promoting collaboration in electricity and renewable energy production, the MoU seeks to advance green electricity solutions and open doors for further cooperation in other areas of mutual interest.
Khalid AlGhamdi, SEC CEO mentioned, “This MoU exemplifies SEC’s ongoing commitment to global partnerships and renewable energy advancement. By working together, we can leverage our collective expertise to enhance the regionโs infrastructure, support green electricity production, and drive sustainable growth.โ
This MoU represents a key milestone in creating a more integrated and sustainable energy future, aligning with Saudi Arabiaโs Vision 2030 and the Kingdomโs goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2060.
