The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has given the green light to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) for a significant Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) project aimed at bolstering grid security and driving economic growth in Northern Mindanao.
In a resolution issued on November 21, 2024, the ERC formally approved NGCP’s Laguindingan 230 kV Substation Project, valued at PhP2.34 billion, during a Commission meeting held earlier this month. The project, registered under ERC Case No. 2021-002 RC, is set to address critical power supply and infrastructure challenges in the region.
The 230 kV substation will ensure a stable power supply for Misamis Oriental I Electric Cooperative (MORESCO I) and provide reliable support to the industrial activities within the Laguindingan Technopark. The facility is also expected to mitigate overloading issues at the Opol Substation and resolve equipment limitations at the Tagoloan Substation.
The Commission has directed NGCP to complete the project by January 31, 2025, warning of administrative penalties for delays, as prescribed by existing regulations.
This approval is part of ERC’s ongoing efforts to enhance energy infrastructure across the Philippines, ensuring reliable electricity for both residential and industrial needs.
