Empowering Citizens: PM Suryaghar and Kusum Drive India’s Green Revolution

Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy, Shri Pralhad Joshi, highlighted the transformative impact of the PM Suryaghar-Muft Bijli Yojana, which enables citizens to become energy producers while earning extra income by selling surplus electricity to distribution companies (discoms). Addressing 750 Special Guests of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) invited to witness the Republic Day Parade, the Minister emphasized the central role of common citizens in India’s renewable energy revolution.

Underlining the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Shri Joshi stated, “The common people are now at the heart of India’s renewable energy revolution. Their work, dedication, and success demonstrate what we can achieve as a nation. The beneficiaries of PM Suryaghar and PM Kusum are the real ambassadors of India’s renewable energy movement.”

The beneficiaries, hailing from various parts of the country, shared their success stories during the event. They expressed gratitude for timely subsidies, the user-friendly PM Suryaghar portal, and the financial savings resulting from zero electricity bills due to solar power installations.

A noteworthy example was highlighted from Dharwad, Karnataka, where a PM Suryaghar beneficiary achieved zero electricity bills by adopting solar energy. The individual benefitted from a ₹78,000 subsidy provided by the central government. “This success story is a testament to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of fostering sustainable and energy-efficient solutions across the nation,” said Shri Joshi.

Another beneficiary, Rakesh Rohi from Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, shared his experience of installing solar pumps under the PM Kusum scheme. The initiative has significantly improved his farm’s yield, showcasing the tangible benefits of renewable energy adoption in agriculture.

MNRE Secretary, Ms. Nidhi Khare, reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to continuously improve scheme implementation through feedback from beneficiaries. MNRE Joint Secretary, Shri Lalit Bohra, along with other senior officials, was also present at the event.

The Special Guests of MNRE visited the PM Sangrahalaya earlier and will witness the Republic Day Parade tomorrow.
