BoxPower, Inc., a California-based company, provides solar and storage microgrid solutions to bring clean, reliable, and affordable energy to remote areas. Using advanced technology and smart software, BoxPower enhances solar microgrid performance and speeds up installation. Since 2018, the company has collaborated with the U.S. Commercial Service (CS) in Sacramento to expand internationally, including in Canada.

BoxPower first engaged with CS Canada through the CanArctic Connect webinar series in 2021, followed by market briefings in 2022 and 2023. These sessions helped the company prepare for entry into the Canadian market. In March 2024, Co-Founder Anderson Barkow and CFO Shawn Burns sought CS Sacramentoโ€™s help in negotiating a contract with ATCO, a Canadian energy company, for an off-grid solar power plant in Edmonton, Alberta.

CS Sacramento arranged a virtual meeting with CS Canada experts in Spring 2024, offering guidance on contract terms, tax regulations, and import procedures. They also provided a list of customs brokers to simplify logistics. This preparation helped BoxPower finalize the deal with ATCO successfully. By September 2024, BoxPower had completed the export of the solar power plant to Edmonton. The companyโ€™s CEO credited CS Sacramento for their valuable support in making the project a success.
