DEWA Showcases Clean Energy Leadership and Global Partnerships at World Governments Summit 2025

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) wrapped up its participation as the โ€˜Sustainability Partnerโ€™ at the World Governments Summit 2025, where it shared its clean energy experience and outlined strategies for achieving net zero by 2050 through advanced clean and renewable energy technologies.

During the summit, HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of DEWA, delivered a keynote address, emphasizing Dubaiโ€™s leadership in utilizing disruptive technologies, particularly artificial intelligence (AI), in the energy and water sectors. Al Tayer highlighted the importance of integrating AI into DEWAโ€™s operations and customer services, marking a significant step in the cityโ€™s commitment to sustainability.

In addition to the keynote, Al Tayer held several high-level meetings with global industry leaders. He met with Masood Sharif Mahmood, CEO of e& in the UAE, to discuss collaboration opportunities and exchange best practices in the technology and communications network infrastructure sectors.

Al Tayer also engaged with Robert Mumgaard, CEO of Commonwealth Fusion Systems, a leading clean energy company founded in 2018 at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Their discussions focused on the crucial role of clean energy in reducing emissions, supporting the UAEโ€™s net-zero goals by 2050, and addressing the ongoing challenges of climate change.

Further strengthening international ties, Al Tayer met Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, CEO of Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar), to explore ways to reinforce their strategic partnership in the field of renewable energy. The talks also touched upon the latest developments in Masdarโ€™s projects at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, including the ongoing 1,800MW sixth phase expansion of the worldโ€™s largest single-site solar park, implemented using the independent power producer (IPP) model.

As Chairman of the UAE Water Aid Foundation (Suqia UAE), Al Tayer also met with HE Fahad Abdulrahman bin Sultan, Deputy Secretary-General for Development and International Cooperation at the UAE Red Crescent. The meeting focused on the progress of water projects carried out by Suqia UAE in partnership with the Emirates Red Crescent to provide clean and potable water to underserved communities worldwide. Since its establishment in 2015, Suqia UAE has benefitted over 14.9 million people globally.

DEWAโ€™s participation at the summit reinforced its commitment to leading sustainable development and advancing the UAEโ€™s role in global clean energy initiatives.
