The Assam Cabinet has taken a significant step towards promoting renewable energy by approving the Assam Integrated Clean Energy Policy, 2025. This policy aims to make the state a leading investment destination in the renewable energy sector by encouraging solar, wind, mini, and small hydro projects, pumped storage projects, battery energy storage systems, green hydrogen, biofuel, and electric vehicle systems. By introducing various incentives, the policy is expected to attract businesses and industries to set up clean energy projects in Assam, strengthening the stateโ€™s contribution to India’s renewable energy goals.

In addition to policy approval, the government has also taken a major step to enhance solar power generation. The Cabinet has approved the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) Board’s decision to issue a Letter of Acceptance to successful bidders for the development of a 250 MW solar plant. Further, under the “Mukhya Mantri Sauro Shakti Prokolpo,” the government has sanctioned the development of common infrastructure for solar parks. These initiatives will help increase the state’s renewable energy capacity, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, and support a cleaner, greener future.

Wind energy and hydro projects are also key components of the new policy. By supporting small hydro and wind projects, the state aims to diversify its renewable energy mix, ensuring a stable and sustainable power supply. The inclusion of pumped storage projects and battery energy storage systems will improve grid stability, addressing the challenges of renewable energy intermittency. Additionally, the policy promotes green hydrogen and biofuel projects, opening new avenues for clean energy development in Assam.

The governmentโ€™s push for electric vehicle infrastructure under the policy is another critical move towards sustainability. By integrating EV systems into the energy transition plan, Assam is preparing for the growing demand for clean mobility solutions. The policy framework is expected to boost job creation, technology investments, and industrial growth in the renewable sector while reducing carbon emissions. With these initiatives, Assam is taking a decisive step toward a cleaner and more energy-efficient future. By focusing on solar, wind, hydro, and other emerging green technologies, the state is paving the way for a sustainable energy ecosystem. The implementation of this policy will not only benefit industries but also improve energy access and environmental health, contributing to Assamโ€™s long-term economic and ecological stability.
