Oman’s Energy Minister, Salim Al-Aufi, has announced that the Final Investment Decision (FID) for the first of eight planned green hydrogen projects in the sultanate is anticipated between 2026 and 2027.

Among the proposed initiatives, the Hyport Duqm project is likely to lead the development, with an initial production capacity of 60,000 tonnes per year. The project is supported by OQ Alternative Energy (25.5%), BP (49%), and Belgium’s Deme (25.5%).

In its first phase, the partners plan to deploy 1.4GW of renewable energy capacity alongside a 500MW electrolyzer, with a future roadmap to scale up the electrolyzer capacity to 1GW. The project aligns with Oman’s vision to position itself as a global leader in green hydrogen production.
