Tata Power Signs MoU to Develop 7,000 MW Renewable Energy Projects in Andhra Pradesh

Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a subsidiary of The Tata Power Company Limited, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Andhra Pradesh to develop renewable energy projects in the state. The agreement was signed in Amaravati and aims to advance Andhra Pradeshโ€™s renewable energy goals. The collaboration will focus on developing up to 7,000 MW (7 GW) of renewable energy projects, including solar, wind, and hybrid systems with or without storage solutions. The estimated investment for these projects is around โ‚น49,000 crore, making it one of the largest renewable energy investments in the state.

The partnership is aligned with Andhra Pradeshโ€™s Integrated Clean Energy (ICE) Policy, which targets the development of over 160 GW of renewable energy with an investment potential of โ‚น10 lakh crore. The agreement is expected to contribute significantly to the state’s transition towards sustainable energy while boosting the local economy and creating employment opportunities. Skill development and job creation will be key benefits of this initiative, helping improve livelihoods in the region.

The collaboration also strengthens the long-standing relationship between the Tata Group and the state of Andhra Pradesh. The company plans to conduct preliminary assessments, feasibility studies, and development activities to evaluate the viability of these projects. The New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (NREDCAP) will provide support in facilitating site identification and evacuation infrastructure.

The CEO and Managing Director of TPREL, Deepesh Nanda, expressed confidence in the partnership, emphasizing that it would help accelerate the state’s transition to a low-carbon economy. He highlighted that the initiative would not only strengthen Andhra Pradeshโ€™s position as a renewable energy hub but also contribute to India’s sustainability goals.

Andhra Pradeshโ€™s Minister for Information Technology, Electronics & Communications, and Human Resources Development, Nara Lokesh, welcomed Tata Power Renewable Energy Limitedโ€™s involvement in the stateโ€™s renewable energy expansion. He pointed out that the clean energy policy is expected to generate โ‚น10 lakh crore in investments and create 7.5 lakh jobs in the state. The initiative is seen as a step towards attracting large-scale investments and fostering innovation in the renewable sector.
