India Achieves 102 GW Solar Capacity, Renewables Now 35.65% Of 470 GW Power Mix

India is making steady progress in its shift towards renewable energy while staying aligned with its national energy goals and international climate commitments. As of February 2025, coal continues to be the largest source of electricity in the country. It accounts for 45.74% of the total installed power capacity. By the end of February 2025, renewable energy made up 35.65% of India’s total installed power capacity. This is an important step in India’s transition to renewable energy. The country’s overall renewable energy capacity, excluding large hydroelectric projects, reached 167.709 GW. Solar energy contributed 61.16% of this renewable capacity, making it the largest source of renewables. Solar now accounts for 21.8% of India’s total installed power capacity. This marks an increase of 35.71% compared to the previous year, showing rapid growth in solar installations.
