Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani has directed the launch of renewable energy projects by early next summer, emphasizing the need to streamline procedures and remove obstacles hindering their progress.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Media Office, al-Sudani chaired a special meeting of the National Renewable Energy Team, where he urged greater coordination between the National Renewable Energy Team and the Higher Coordination Authority between the Governorates to facilitate private sector involvement in Baghdad and other regions.
During the meeting, officials reviewed several key projects, including:
- Transitioning government buildings to solar energy
- Implementing smart solutions at the Al-Budour residential complex
- Issuing tenders for renewable energy projects covering 100 schools and five health centers
The meeting also outlined preparations for an upcoming national conference on rapid smart energy solutions, which will be sponsored by the Prime Minister and the National Renewable Energy Team.
Additionally, a preliminary approval was granted for the construction of two 20-megawatt solar power plants in Rusafa and Karkh. The Ministry of Electricity will also install two 3-megawatt solar plants as part of the solar power project at the Army Canal site.
