NTPC Limited, Indiaโ€™s largest integrated power utility, has taken a significant step towards strengthening Central Indiaโ€™s energy infrastructure with the development of the Sipat Super Thermal Power Project, Stage-III, in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh. On March 30, 2025, Honโ€™ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the 800 MW pit-head power project.

This project is being developed with an investment of Rs 9,791 crore within the existing premises of the Sipat Super Thermal Power Station. Once commissioned, the new unit will increase the total installed capacity of the Sipat STPS to 3,780 MW.

The expansion of the Sipat plant will play a crucial role in meeting the rising electricity demand in the Central Region, benefiting not only Chhattisgarh, which hosts the project, but also other states such as Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Goa. By incorporating advanced Ultra Supercritical technology, the plant will enhance fuel efficiency and significantly reduce emissions, supporting NTPCโ€™s commitment to cleaner and more efficient power generation.
