Uttar Pradesh has achieved a significant milestone under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana, with over one lakh rooftop solar installations completed across the state as of March 2025. This marks a major step forward in the stateโs efforts to expand clean and sustainable energy access at the household level.
The state government has set an ambitious goal of installing eight lakh rooftop solar plants by March 2027. For the current financial year alone, the target stands at 2.65 lakh installations, with an average monthly target of 22,000 systems. This translates to approximately 300 installations per district every month, ensuring a widespread and balanced rollout.
To manage the scale of the project, the Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA) is leading the implementation, with clear targets assigned at the district, DISCOM, municipal corporation, and municipality levels. The schemeโs progress is being tracked in real-time via integration with the Chief Minister’s Dashboard, enabling better oversight and timely interventions.
So far, the response from residents has been overwhelming. The state has received more than 10.73 lakh applications from individuals keen on adopting rooftop solar systems. Installation work is progressing rapidly, with around 11,000 more systems currently underway and a daily installation rate of over 500 rooftops.
To support this growth, more than 2,500 vendors have been empanelled under the scheme, of which around 1,800 have received formal training to carry out installations efficiently. The government is also working with banks to provide loans and credit guarantees, easing the financial burden for households looking to invest in solar technology.
This initiative not only aims to reduce dependency on conventional electricity sources but also promotes environmental conservation. The state governmentโs focused approach, combined with active citizen participation, is positioning Uttar Pradesh as a leader in Indiaโs residential solar adoption. With the current momentum and support mechanisms in place, the state is well on track to meet its target of eight lakh rooftop solar installations by 2027.
