Saudi Arabia, India Strengthen Ties on Green Hydrogen, Oil Stability, and Climate Cooperation

Saudi Arabia and India have agreed to deepen bilateral cooperation across energy, petrochemicals, and climate-related sectors, following a high-level meeting between His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a state visit to the Kingdom.

The meeting marked a key milestone for the high-level task force launched earlier this year, which has now reached a preliminary understanding to promote mutual investments and strategic collaboration.

A major outcome of the talks was a joint agreement to cooperate on the establishment of two oil refineries, signaling an expanded commitment to strengthening bilateral energy ties. Both sides also pledged to work jointly to enhance stability in the global oil market, underlining the importance of securing energy supplies across all fuel types.

The energy partnership extends into the clean and green transition, with the two countries prioritizing cooperation in hydrogen development. This includes efforts to stimulate demand, advance transport and storage technologies, and share best practices and technical expertise.

Supply chain development and collaborative energy infrastructure projects were also discussed, alongside initiatives to boost energy efficiency across buildings, transportation, and industrial sectors.

On climate change, both nations reaffirmed their commitment to the principles of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement. They agreed to pursue climate strategies focused on reducing emissions, rather than targeting specific energy sources.

Prime Minister Modi welcomed the Kingdom’s environmental leadership through its “Saudi Green Initiative” and “Middle East Green Initiative,” pledging India’s support for Saudi Arabia’s climate action efforts.

Further, the two sides underscored the importance of expanding cooperation on the circular carbon economy model—a comprehensive emissions management approach that supports global climate objectives through reuse, recycling, and responsible carbon strategies.

Saudi Arabia acknowledged India’s leadership in international sustainability efforts, including initiatives like the International Solar Alliance, One Sun-One World-One Grid, Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI), Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), and the Global Green Credit Initiative.

The strengthened partnership is expected to reinforce both nations’ roles as key global players in energy security, clean energy innovation, and sustainable development.
