APERC Waives Fees And Net Metering Costs For Domestic Solar Rooftop Installations Under PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijili Yojana

The Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC) has issued an order to support the installation of solar rooftop systems (SRTs) under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijili Yojana Scheme. Following a request from the Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited (APEPDCL), the commission has decided to waive the application fees, net metering costs, and the requirement for a net metering agreement for domestic consumers who install grid-connected solar rooftop systems of up to 10 kW capacity.

This decision aims to encourage more households to adopt solar energy under the scheme, which is part of the government’s efforts to promote renewable energy adoption across the state.

The order, which follows a review of requests from other distribution companies like APSPDCL and APCPDCL, was issued under specific provisions of the APERC regulations. It emphasizes that while the application fees and net metering charges will be waived, the net metering agreement remains mandatory to ensure that the rights of both the consumer and the utility are safeguarded.

This initiative aligns with the state’s broader goal of increasing solar power usage and reducing dependency on traditional energy sources, thereby supporting a cleaner, more sustainable energy future for domestic consumers in Andhra Pradesh.
