Clean energy provider Gentari, via its wholly-owned subsidiary Gentari Renewables Sdn Bhd, has signed landmark Solar Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) to supply solar energy to six of TMโs major facilities.
This development follows the recent expansion of a strategic collaboration between TM and PETRONAS, which now includes a new tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Gentari. The partnership aims to accelerate the decarbonisation of TMโs assets and further Malaysiaโs green energy agenda.
Under the PPAs, Gentari will be responsible for designing, installing, and operating solar energy systems across TMโs facilities. These systems will deliver an estimated total capacity of 4.3 MWp and generate approximately 4.82 GWh annually. The initiative is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by about 3.66 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2e) annually.
The clean energy will power key TM operations, including data centres in Cyberjaya and Iskandar Puteri, the TM R&D Complex in Cyberjaya, TMโs Submarine Cable Landing Station (SKDL) in Mersing, and Multimedia University campuses in Cyberjaya and Melaka. The installations at university campuses also support Malaysiaโs wider green campus initiatives.
โThis PPA marks a significant milestone, beyond advancing TMโs decarbonisation goals and growing Gentariโs presence in Malaysiaโs renewable energy market,โ said Gentariโs Chief Renewables Officer, Low Kian Min. โIt also paves the way for more partnerships, in line with our vision to become Asia Pacificโs most valued clean energy solutions partner by 2030.โ
TMโs Chief Corporate Officer, Nor Fadhilah Mohd Ali, noted the collaboration aligns with the companyโs Net Zero 2050 goals. โThis partnership gives TM access to advanced green energy technologies and supports upskilling of our workforce in sustainability. It strengthens our energy security and reinforces our commitment to a sustainable future,โ she said.
The PPAs further underscore Gentariโs efforts to boost renewable energy adoption in Malaysiaโs Commercial & Industrial (C&I) sector. Gentari has already executed similar solar installations at educational institutions such as Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) and Institut Teknologi Petroleum PETRONAS (INSTEP).
To date, Gentari has achieved a combined renewable energy capacity of 8 GW, either installed or under construction, spanning Malaysia, India, and Australia.
