As the solar industry continues to expand rapidly, it plays a vital role in the global effort to combat climate change and achieve carbon neutrality. The newly launched GSSA is designed to guide the industry towards responsible and inclusive growth. It focuses on key areas such as responsible sourcing of minerals, biodiversity and ecosystem protection, social equity, and broader economic inclusion. The initiative outlines nine specific action points under three core pillars, all aimed at strengthening environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices within the solar sector.

The GSSA aligns closely with the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Meng Liu, UNGC Representative in China, expressed strong support for the alliance. She commended the contributions of global solar companies, particularly Chinese photovoltaic enterprises, in advancing the global energy transition. She also emphasized that the initiative reflects corporate responsibility in protecting the environment, safeguarding human rights, and ensuring good governance.
