In June 2025, India achieved a major step forward in its renewable energy journey. During the month, the country generated a total of 29,660.94 million units of renewable electricity, excluding large hydro. Solar power played a key role, contributing 12,927.48 million units, which was 43.58% of the total renewable energy generated. Although this figure was slightly lower than in May 2025 due to monsoon rains in several areas reducing sunlight, it still marked a 12.95% increase compared to June 2024. This shows the continued growth and importance of solar power in Indiaโ€™s clean energy plans.

The rise in solar generation is supported by strong government policies, financial support schemes, and improvements in solar PV technology. New installations and better system efficiency have also helped increase output. The participation of both public and private sectors has been crucial in expanding solar power across the country. Even with temporary weather-related drops, solar remains a reliable and fast-growing part of Indiaโ€™s renewable energy mix.

Wind energy made an even larger contribution in June, accounting for 50.17% of the total renewable energy generated. Wind farms produced 14,879.54 million units during the month, slightly more than solar. This increase was helped by stronger wind speeds during the monsoon season. Indiaโ€™s installed wind capacity reached 51,674.85 MW by the end of the month. While wind energy is affected by seasonal weather patterns, it benefits during months like June when wind speeds are higher. However, to maintain consistency, better forecasting and support systems are needed for wind power.

Other renewable sources such as biomass, bagasse, and small hydro together made up the remaining 6.25% of the renewable mix. Although their share is smaller, these sources add variety to the energy system and help reduce the risk of relying too much on solar or wind alone.

Overall, Indiaโ€™s renewable electricity generation in June 2025 rose by 28.67% compared to the same month in 2024. The dip in solar output due to rains was balanced by the rise in wind energy. To meet the 2030 target of 500 GW of renewable energy, India needs to focus more on energy storage, grid upgrades, and better financing solutions. Together, solar and wind power made up 93.75% of the countryโ€™s renewable energy generation in June, showing their dominant role in the energy transition.
