ABO Energy has achieved a significant milestone in Poland with the award of a contract for its first Polish solar park through a tariff tender organized by the Energy Regulatory Office (URE). The winning project, the Gubin solar park, had already cleared one of the most critical hurdles in Polish renewable energy developmentโ€”securing grid connection conditionsโ€”before the successful bid.

Construction of the Gubin solar park has recently begun. With a planned maximum capacity of 17 megawatts peak, it is expected to generate enough electricity to power over 6,000 households. The site, located in the Lubuskie voivodeship, is being developed on a former military training range, turning unused land into a source of clean energy.

According to Aleksandra Koska, Managing Director of ABO Energy Polska, this achievement marks a major step forward for the company. She noted that after connecting their first Polish wind farm in Donaborรณw in 2022, building the Gubin solar park and securing a tariff represent another important chapter in their expansion.

Dr Klaus Pรถtter, the responsible General Manager, stated, The outlook for renewable energies in Poland is very good. The country is experiencing high economic growth and has an electricity demand of around 160 terawatt hours. Until now, coal has played the leading role, but that is currently changing.โ€

Koska also added, โ€œIn any case, we are convinced that onshore wind energy will play an important role in Poland again in the future and are therefore continuing to work intensively on several wind projects. Solar energy and battery storage had a slightly easier time and we hope that realisation of our solar park in Gubin will help us to further expand our strong position in the Polish market. Thanks to the excellent work of our colleagues in ลรณdลบ, Warsaw, Wrocล‚aw and Krakรณw and the support of our German parent company with its nearly 30 years of experience, we are very well positioned to help shape the Polish energy transition.โ€

ABO Energy has been operating in Poland since 2019 and established its office in ลรณdลบ in 2020. The local team of 18 employees works on solar, wind, and battery projects with a combined planned capacity exceeding one gigawatt. In addition to the Gubin projectโ€™s grid connection, the company has recently obtained grid access approvals for three more solar parks. It has also applied for grid connections for three standalone battery storage projects, including a large 257-megawatt facility.

The timing of this progress aligns with Polandโ€™s broader energy transition goals. In June 2025, renewable energy generation in the country surpassed coal for the first time. The government aims to increase the share of renewables in the electricity mix from the current 29 percent to 56 percent by 2030.

While the expansion of onshore wind remains limited by the โ€œ10H ruleโ€โ€”which requires wind turbines to be sited at a distance at least ten times their height from residential areas unless local plans allow a reduced distance of 700 metersโ€”there are ongoing legislative efforts to ease this restriction. ABO Energyโ€™s entry into solar development in Poland, alongside its wind and battery initiatives, reflects both the companyโ€™s growth strategy and the countryโ€™s accelerating shift toward clean energy.
