Sosnowiec Leads The Way In Sustainability: City Achieves Climate Progress With Hekla Energy, No Investment Costs, Over 17,000 Clients Served

Sosnowiec is taking a significant step toward a greener and more sustainable future. Beginning January 1, 2026, key municipal institutions in the city will be powered entirely by renewable energy, following a partnership with Hekla Energy, one of Polandโ€™s leading green energy providers. This initiative represents a concrete step toward climate neutrality and supports the cityโ€™s long-term goal of sustainable development. Sosnowiec, the largest city in the Dฤ…browa Basin, has a rich industrial history, with decades of growth built on mining, metallurgy, and transportation.

Transitioning to renewable energy through Hekla Energy marks a symbolic shift from the cityโ€™s coal-based past to a cleaner, more modern, and citizen-friendly future. Mayor Arkadiusz Chฤ™ciล„ski emphasized the cityโ€™s environmental progress, noting that over the past ten years, the number of smog days in Sosnowiec has dropped from more than 100 to just around a dozen, demonstrating the scale of transformation the city has achieved. Under a recently awarded public tender, Hekla Energy will supply renewable energy to a wide range of public institutions.

Municipal administration buildings, infrastructure services, and educational, medical, and cultural facilities will all benefit from green electricity. Important municipal units and affiliated companies such as the Municipal Waste Management Company, Sosnowiec Waterworks, and the Municipal Transport Company will now operate entirely on renewable energy. Healthcare facilities, including the Sosnowiec City Hospital, the Outpatient Medical Care Facility, and the Milowice Health Center, will also receive clean energy.

Cultural and educational institutions, including the Zagล‚ฤ™bie Theatre, CEE โ€œEgzotarium,โ€ Sosnowiec Art Center โ€“ Sielecki Castle, Schoen Palace โ€“ Museum, Gustaw Daniล‚owski Municipal Public Library, Jan Kiepura Municipal Cultural Club, and the Open Culture Stop, will be powered by renewable electricity. Other public amenities, such as the Zagล‚ฤ™bie Sports Park, will also benefit from this transition.

Hekla Energy provides certified renewable electricity generated from domestic wind, solar, and biogas sources. Through this partnership, Sosnowiec achieves significant environmental and reputational benefits without incurring any investment costs.

By supplying only certified green energy from Polish sources, Hekla Energy enables cities like Sosnowiec to substantially reduce their carbon footprint while ensuring transparency, flexibility, and economic viability.
