Global renewable energy developer Zelestra has announced a new partnership with Microsoft and Aragón-based nonprofit ECODES to accelerate clean-energy deployment and expand social and environmental investments across the region of Aragón, Spain.

Under a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), Microsoft will procure renewable electricity generated from Zelestra’s Escatrón II and Fuendetodos II solar projects, currently under construction in Zaragoza. Together, the projects will provide 95.7 MWac of solar capacity once operational.

As part of the collaboration, ECODES will receive dedicated funding to lead community investment programs focused on sustainability and social inclusion. The Community Fund will support initiatives such as expanding access to sustainable infrastructure, improving environmental quality, enhancing economic inclusion, and strengthening local organizations that serve vulnerable populations.

The initiative supports Zelestra’s 3 Es strategy—Education, Energy, and Environment, while also contributing to Microsoft’s carbon-negative commitment and its Datacenter Community Pledge to build digital infrastructure that delivers positive societal impact. The partnership aligns closely with ECODES’ mission to ensure equitable participation in Spain’s energy transition.

Microsoft’s Eoin Doherty added that as the company expands its presence in Aragón, it remains committed to advancing community well-being and sustainability through partnerships like this one.
