Husk Power Systems has announced a major strategic shift with the launch of its new AI-enabled distributed energy resources (DER) platform, positioning the company to accelerate clean-energy access across the Global South. The announcement was made at the Africa Investment Forum (AIF), where the company formally opened fundraising for its Series E round, targeting $400 million in equity and debt.
The new initiative, branded the โPowering Prosperityโ platform, aims to deploy at least 2 gigawatts (GW) of distributed solar and battery storage systems across South Asia, Southeast Asia, and Sub-Saharan Africa by 2030. Husk has already secured more than $125 million to date and currently serves over 2.2 million people in India and Nigeria.
AI-Powered Platform Targets Communities, Businesses, and Homes
Huskโs revamped DER model is built around three customer segmentsโcommunities, commercial and industrial (C&I) businesses, and households.
-Minigrids will continue to supply power to rural communities, both isolated and grid-connected.
-C&I and residential customers will be offered standalone rooftop or ground-mounted systems through turnkey EPC models or long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs).
-The platform will also extend solutions to schools, healthcare facilities, and public institutions.
Husk CEO and Co-Founder Manoj Sinha said the companyโs evolution reflects nearly a decade of operational experience in India and Nigeria.
โHusk has evolved into an AI-powered DER provider serving communities, households and businesses. This opens up exciting new growth opportunities to deploy 2GW by 2030 and tailor DER solutions for new markets,โ Sinha noted.
AI as the โCentral Nervous Systemโ of Operations
At the core of the Powering Prosperity platform is a sophisticated digital architecture powered by predictive and agentic artificial intelligence.
-Predictive AI estimates energy demand for every minigrid site.
-Agentic AI then optimizes generation assets every 30 minutes to minimize energy costs, maximize renewable penetration, and improve service delivery.
These algorithmic systems are designed to lower the delivered cost of electricity while enhancing long-term operational efficiency.
Supporting Global Electrification and National Clean-Energy Targets
Huskโs strategy aligns with broader development agendas:
-In Africa, the expansion supports Mission 300, a joint initiative of the World Bank and African Development Bank to electrify 300 million people by 2030.
-The World Bank has identified community solar minigrids as the most capital-efficient solution for first-time electrification across Sub-Saharan Africa.
-In India, Huskโs platform contributes to the national goal of installing 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030.
With its new AI-driven platform and aggressive expansion plan, Husk Power is seeking to become a leading DER utility across emerging markets, scaling renewable energy access for millions over the next decade.
