ReNew Energy Global Plc has announced a long-term agreement with Google to enable the development of a new 150 MW solar power project in Rajasthan, marking another important step in Indiaโs clean energy transition. Under this agreement, Google will procure the energy attributes from the solar project, a move that will play a key role in ensuring the projectโs financial viability and long-term bankability. The partnership highlights the growing role of corporate demand in driving new renewable energy capacity in India.
The 150 MW solar project is scheduled to be commissioned in 2026 and is expected to generate around 425,000 megawatt-hours of clean electricity every year. This level of generation is equivalent to meeting the annual power needs of more than 360,000 Indian households. Once operational, the project will contribute to reducing carbon emissions and supporting grid-level clean power availability in Rajasthan, a state that continues to attract large-scale solar investments due to its strong solar resource potential.
For Google, the agreement supports its efforts to address emissions across its value chain. By securing long-term access to energy attributes from a new solar project, Google is helping bring additional renewable capacity onto the grid rather than relying only on existing assets. This approach also aligns with the companyโs broader strategy of sourcing clean, affordable electricity to support its infrastructure growth and wider sustainability commitments in key markets like India.
From ReNewโs perspective, the agreement further strengthens its commercial and industrial clean energy portfolio, which now stands at 2.7 gigawatts. The company has been actively working with corporate customers to deliver renewable energy and carbon reduction solutions, and this latest partnership reinforces its position as one of Indiaโs leading providers in this segment. Long-term corporate agreements such as this are increasingly seen as critical enablers for new renewable projects, as they provide revenue certainty and support financing.
Senior leaders from both companies emphasized the broader impact of the collaboration. ReNew highlighted that long-term partnerships with global companies help accelerate Indiaโs energy transition by enabling new capacity and setting examples for credible climate action. Google noted that the agreement not only supports its own sustainability goals but also contributes positively to the national grid by adding new clean energy in a key region.
India has set an ambitious target of reaching 500 GW of non-fossil fuel energy capacity by 2030, and corporate renewable energy agreements are expected to play a vital role in achieving this goal. ReNew is also progressing on an SBTi-aligned pathway to reach net-zero emissions by 2040, supported by renewable energy expansion, efficiency improvements, and value chain decarbonisation. Through partnerships like this with global technology companies, ReNew continues to support Indiaโs shift toward a low-carbon and sustainable energy future.
