Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), a Government of India enterprise, has announced that it has been selected as the successful bidder for a major battery energy storage project in Andhra Pradesh. The information was shared through a corporate filing dated December 30, 2025, submitted to the stock exchanges.
The project is part of a broader initiative for the selection of battery energy storage developers to set up a cumulative capacity of 2,000 MWh of standalone Battery Energy Storage Systems across selected substations of Andhra Pradesh Transmission Corporation Limited (APTRANSCO). Under this initiative, POWERGRID has secured the project to develop a Battery Energy Storage System at the 400/220 kV substation at Kalikiri in Chittoor district.
The proposed facility will have a capacity of 150 MW with an energy storage capacity of 300 MWh, offering two hours of storage for on-demand power supply. The project will be developed under the Build-Own-Operate model, indicating POWERGRIDโs long-term involvement in operating and maintaining the asset. The project will also receive Viability Gap Funding through the Power System Development Fund, underlining its importance for strengthening grid infrastructure.
POWERGRID received the formal Letter of Award for the project on December 29, 2025. The company informed the National Stock Exchange of India and BSE Limited in line with Regulation 30 of the SEBI Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements Regulations, 2015, which requires disclosure of material developments.
With this project, POWERGRID is expanding its presence in large-scale battery storage solutions. The 300 MWh storage system at Kalikiri is expected to support renewable energy integration and improve grid reliability in Andhra Pradesh. The filing was digitally signed by Satyaprakash Dash, Company Secretary and Compliance Officer of POWERGRID.
