ROSHN Group, a Public Investment Fund-backed developer, has become the first organisation in Saudi Arabia and the GCC region to achieve carbon management certification for buildings and infrastructure under the PAS 2080 standard.
The certification was awarded by BSI, a global business standards and improvement body, marking a significant milestone in the Kingdomโs efforts to strengthen sustainability practices in the built environment.
The independent certification aligns with Saudi Arabiaโs Vision 2030 objectives, which prioritise environmental stewardship and quality of life improvements as part of the national development agenda.
Structured Approach to Carbon Reduction
As carbon management gains global importance, Saudi Arabia committed in 2021 to reducing emissions under its national sustainability strategy. In response, ROSHN Group adopted the PAS 2080 framework โ an internationally recognised standard designed to manage and reduce whole-life carbon across buildings and infrastructure projects.
To achieve certification, the company conducted a comprehensive gap assessment and developed a detailed implementation roadmap. The initiative included integrating carbon management into daily operations, improving emissions data transparency, and aligning suppliers and contractors with defined carbon reduction targets.
Continuous audits and stakeholder engagement were undertaken to ensure compliance with key performance indicators and national climate objectives.
Following an independent evaluation by BSI, ROSHN Group was confirmed as compliant with PAS 2080, demonstrating adherence to global best practices in carbon management.
Advancing Sustainable Infrastructure
PAS 2080 provides a structured carbon management process for the built environment, with a focus on reducing whole-life carbon emissions while enhancing value through intelligent design and collaborative leadership across the supply chain.
BSI noted that certification under the standard reflects proactive carbon reduction efforts and positions ROSHN Group as a leader in sustainable real estate development within Saudi Arabia and the wider GCC region.
The milestone is expected to support broader industry adoption of structured carbon management practices and contribute to the Kingdomโs transition toward a more sustainable and low-carbon future.
