The Ambassador of Egypt to Zambia, Mayada Essam Abdelrahman, has paid a courtesy call on Zambiaโ€™s Minister of Energy, Makozo Chikote, at the Ministry of Energy headquarters in Lusaka to discuss enhanced cooperation in the energy sector.

The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations between Egypt and Zambia through collaboration in electricity generation, renewable energy development and energy infrastructure investment. The Ambassador was accompanied by Ms Mariam Sakr, Political and Economic Officer at the Egyptian Embassy.

During the discussions, Ambassador Abdelrahman expressed particular interest in the Batoka Gorge Hydro-Electric Scheme, a major hydropower project being jointly developed by Zambia and Zimbabwe.

In response, Minister Chikote encouraged Egyptian investors to explore opportunities in Zambiaโ€™s energy sector, noting that the country continues to face an energy deficit and is seeking strategic partnerships to expand generation capacity. He added that increased investment would further strengthen the longstanding ties between the two nations.

The Minister was accompanied at the meeting by Permanent Secretary for Electricity, Eng. Arnold Simwaba.
