VinEnergo has announced an ambitious global expansion plan, marking its formal entry into the international renewable energy market with a project portfolio of around 10 gigawatts (GW). The move represents an important step for the Vietnamese energy firm as it aims to transition from a domestic developer to a major global renewable energy player. Over the next three years, the company plans to rapidly increase its total installed and developed capacity to nearly 100 GW by focusing on high-growth renewable energy markets in North America, Europe, and Southeast Asia.

As part of its expansion strategy, VinEnergo has already secured development agreements for several large-scale renewable projects in different regions. In Northern Europe, the company has partnered with GreenGo Energy to develop around 2 GW of wind and solar power projects in Denmark and Sweden. The partnership is expected to expand further, with long-term plans to increase the total renewable capacity in the region to approximately 6.2 GW. These projects will play a role in strengthening renewable energy supply in Northern Europe and supporting the regionโ€™s clean energy targets.

In Southeast Asia, VinEnergo is also expanding its footprint in the Philippines through partnerships with local companies. The projects in the country are expected to deliver nearly 4 GW of solar power capacity across major locations such as Luzon and Mindanao. In most of its overseas projects, the company plans to hold more than 80 percent ownership, which allows it to maintain strong control over project financing, construction, and long-term operations.

One of the major strengths supporting the companyโ€™s expansion is its in-house expertise in battery storage technology. VinEnergo has developed capabilities in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), which allow renewable energy projects to operate more reliably by storing excess electricity and releasing it when needed. This technology is particularly important in markets with a high share of renewable energy, as it helps improve grid stability and ensures a consistent power supply. By integrating storage solutions with renewable projects, the company believes it can reduce operational risks and improve project economics.

At the same time, VinEnergo continues to expand its activities within Vietnam. The company is involved in several large domestic projects, including a 4,800 MW LNG-to-power plant in Hai Phong and a number of offshore wind developments. These projects are expected to support the countryโ€™s long-term energy security while also contributing to its climate goals and transition toward cleaner energy.

According to CEO Nguyen Anh Khoa, the international expansion marks a new stage in the companyโ€™s development. He noted that VinEnergo aims to combine global governance standards with advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and big data to manage complex renewable energy projects. Looking ahead, the company is also planning to explore new opportunities in emerging markets in Central Asia and Africa as part of its long-term strategy to expand its global clean energy portfolio.
