CEI Africa has launched a new digital platform designed to help mini-grid developers navigate environmental and social (E&S) regulatory frameworks across SubโSaharan Africa.
The Green Mini-Grid (GMG) Environmental & Social Regulatory Mapping Platform has been developed to address regulatory complexities faced by developers when planning and expanding mini-grid projects in the region.
The platform was commissioned by CEI Africa and developed in partnership with EED Advisory, with support from the Africa MiniโGrids Developers Association (AMDA). It consolidates regulatory information from 21 countries into a single digital resource aimed at improving transparency and accessibility for project developers.
According to CEI Africa, the platform was developed through consultations with national authorities, developers, financiers, and industry practitioners. It maps regulatory procedures, approval timelines, institutional responsibilities, and common implementation challenges encountered during mini-grid project development.
The resource includes six country-specific environmental and social toolkits as well as an interactive dashboard that allows users to explore regulatory requirements, compare frameworks across jurisdictions, and better plan project development.
By improving clarity and predictability around E&S compliance requirements, the platform is expected to support faster and more informed decision-making while facilitating the deployment of green mini-grids across Sub-Saharan Africa.
