The Government of Haryana has announced an ambitious plan to convert all government buildings, autonomous educational institutions and registered gaushalas into solar-powered premises by the financial year 2026–27. The initiative forms part of the state’s broader strategy to expand renewable energy adoption and reduce electricity costs across public infrastructure.
As part of the programme, rooftop solar systems will be installed on public facilities across the state. A recent survey covering 4,523 government buildings has already identified an estimated rooftop solar potential of about 122 MW, which will be harnessed through phased installations in the coming years.
The solarisation initiative was highlighted during the state’s 2026–27 budget announcements, with officials noting that the move will help reduce government electricity expenditure while supporting a more decentralised and self-reliant energy system.
Alongside solarising public infrastructure, Haryana is also promoting rooftop solar adoption among households. The state has set a target of installing around 2.22 lakh rooftop solar systems by March 2027 under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana to accelerate clean energy deployment.
The government also plans to expand solar use in community facilities such as gaushalas, many of which have already begun installing solar plants to reduce operational costs and improve energy self-sufficiency.
Overall, the initiative is expected to strengthen Haryana’s renewable energy ecosystem while promoting sustainable energy practices across public institutions and rural communities.
