Founder Group Limited has secured a RM19.5 million (approximately US$5 million) engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning (EPCC) contract for a 5.5 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) project under the country’s Large Scale Solar 5 (LSS5) programme.

The contract was awarded by a leading solar investment company as part of Malaysia’s flagship solar initiative, also known as the Peralihan Tenaga SuRiA (PETRA) programme. LSS5 represents the country’s largest solar tender to date, with a total capacity of 2,000 MW, more than doubling previous programme allocations.

Supporting Malaysia’s Energy Transition Goals

The rollout of LSS PETRA and LSS PETRA 5+ forms a key component of Malaysia’s broader renewable energy strategy under the Malaysia MADANI framework and the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR), aimed at achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

Since its launch in 2016, the LSS programme has driven significant growth in the country’s renewable energy sector, with around 121 projects approved, totaling 6,228 MW of capacity and investments exceeding RM21 billion.

Project Scope and Timeline

Under the newly awarded contract, Founder Group will be responsible for the design, construction, testing, and commissioning of the solar facility. The project is expected to deliver a guaranteed Maximum Annual Available Capacity (MAAQ) of 13,568.8 MWh during its first two years of operation.

The project is scheduled to achieve commercial operation by May 1, 2027.

Strengthening Market Position

Lee Seng Chi stated that the contract builds on the company’s track record in delivering utility-scale solar projects since earlier LSS cycles. He emphasized the company’s commitment to technical excellence and timely execution to support Malaysia’s growing renewable energy ambitions.

The contract win reflects strong market confidence in Malaysia’s solar sector, supported by consistent policy implementation, increased capacity allocations, and sustained momentum in renewable energy deployment.
