The North Eastern Railway (NER) has invited e-tenders for a renewable energy project in the Gorakhpur region, marking another step towards sustainable infrastructure development. The tender has been issued by the Deputy Chief Electrical Engineer (DYCEE/Colony) on behalf of the President of India for the procurement and installation of a Solar Photovoltaic (PV) plant with a total capacity of 568 kWp.
The project is being carried out under a โNormal Tenderโ category using a single-packet bidding system and is classified as a general works expenditure project. It has been divided into two main parts. The first part includes the design, supply, and installation of an on-grid solar PV system without battery backup. This system will use advanced N-Type TOPCon bifacial modules along with grid-connected inverters equipped with data logging features to ensure efficient monitoring and performance.
The second part of the project focuses on setting up a hybrid solar system with battery backup. This includes the use of 2V VRLA batteries and three-phase hybrid Power Conditioning Units (PCUs). Both systems will require complete installation work, including mounting structures, electrical distribution boards, and fire-resistant cabling. All components and execution must comply with the technical standards and specifications set by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).
The total estimated cost of the project is Rs. 4,34,71,661.12. Bidders interested in participating must submit an Earnest Money Deposit (EMD) of Rs. 3,67,400 through online payment modes such as the IREPS payment gateway or a bank guarantee from a scheduled commercial bank. The selected contractor will also be required to provide a Performance Guarantee of 5 percent of the contract value within 21 days of receiving the Letter of Acceptance. In addition, a Security Deposit of 5 percent will be maintained, including the retained EMD.
To qualify, bidders must meet certain technical and financial requirements. They should have completed a similar solar project of at least 10 kWp capacity in the last seven years. Financially, they must demonstrate adequate average annual turnover based on the project value and its nine-month completion timeline. A valid โAโ class electrical contractor license is also mandatory.
As per the schedule, the tender was uploaded on March 20, 2026, and bidding will begin on March 30, 2026. The last date for submission is April 13, 2026, with a validity period of 60 days for all offers. This initiative highlights NERโs focus on integrating renewable energy solutions into railway infrastructure.
