Lipton Teas and Infusions has commissioned a 580 kWp solar power plant at its Jebel Ali factory in collaboration with Yellow Door Energy, marking a significant step in its global decarbonisation strategy.

The rooftop solar installation, located at the companyโ€™s facility in Jebel Ali, is expected to generate approximately 958,000 kWh of clean electricity annually, meeting around 13% of the siteโ€™s energy requirements. The energy produced is sufficient to support the production of over one billion teabags per year, according to the company.

The solar plant comprises nearly 1,000 photovoltaic panels and incorporates automated cleaning systems, including four robotic units designed to maintain performance efficiency while minimizing water consumption. In addition to power generation, the installation provides shaded parking for 88 vehicles, enhancing on-site infrastructure.

The project is projected to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 388,000 kilograms annually, aligning with the United Arab Emiratesโ€™s Net Zero by 2050 Clean Energy Strategy and supporting Liptonโ€™s broader sustainability targets.

Company officials noted that the initiative strengthens the share of renewable energy in its operations and contributes to its commitment to achieving net-zero emissions across its value chain by 2040. The Jebel Ali facility, already recognized as the first factory in the UAE to achieve zero waste to landfill, continues to expand its environmental initiatives through renewable energy integration.

Jeremy Crane, CEO of Yellow Door Energy, stated that the project highlights the growing adoption of solar leasing models among industrial players, enabling companies to reduce both emissions and energy costs without upfront capital investment. Under the agreement, Yellow Door Energy will be responsible for financing, designing, constructing, and maintaining the solar plant throughout its lifecycle.

Lipton Teas and Infusions also indicated that similar renewable energy initiatives are underway at its facilities in Pakistan and Turkey, reinforcing its global commitment to sustainability and clean energy adoption.

The commissioning of the Jebel Ali solar plant reflects a broader trend among multinational manufacturers to integrate renewable energy solutions into their operations, supporting both corporate climate goals and national clean energy targets.
