Naturgy is increasing its renewable energy capacity in Andalusia with the start of operations at six new photovoltaic plants across the provinces of Seville and Jaรฉn. These facilities add a total of 300 MW to the companyโs portfolio and raise Naturgyโs operational renewable capacity in Andalusia to more than 600 MW.
With this expansion, the company will be able to supply clean energy to over 350,000 homes each year while avoiding approximately 600,000 tons of COโ emissions. In Seville, Naturgy has brought four new plants into operation. These include Encarnaciones and Sol Morรณn in the municipality of Carmona, as well as La Romera and Los Mangos in Alcalรก de Guadaรญra.
Each of these plants contributes 50 MW. In addition, the Andรบjar I and Andรบjar III solar plants in Jaรฉn have recently begun operations, adding another 100 MW. All of these developments required an investment of more than 260 million euros. Naturgy representatives emphasized that these new plants will help strengthen Andalusiaโs energy independence at a time when the global energy sector faces considerable uncertainty.
The company presented this message during an official visit to the new facilities in Seville, attended by regional and local authorities including the Secretary General for Energy, the Regional Delegate for Economy, Finance, European Funds, and Industry in Seville, and the Councilor for Urban Planning and Housing of Carmona. Naturgyโs leadership team also participated in the visit.
The four new solar plants in Seville have a combined peak capacity of over 205 MW and will generate more than 430 GWh of renewable electricity every year. This amount of power equals the average consumption of 130,000 homes. Their operation will also help avoid more than 210,000 tons of COโ emissions annually.
Building these plants created over 1,300 direct and indirect jobs, and 19 long-term jobs will continue throughout their operational life. Naturgyโs Director of Renewable Generation in Spain noted that the companyโs growth in Andalusia is based on a clear strategy of developing wind and solar facilities that can be integrated with battery storage.
This combination provides more system flexibility, supports the energy transition, and contributes to greater energy autonomy for both the region and the country. The company is continuing to expand its presence in Andalusia with a pipeline of more than 20 renewable energy projects at various stages of development or construction. Many of these projects are expected to enter into service before the end of 2027. A significant portion of the upcoming portfolio includes hybridization projects with storage systems, which will be added to existing solar parks to improve operational efficiency and flexibility.
Naturgy now operates nine photovoltaic plants in Andalusia. These include Tabernas I and Tabernas II in Almerรญa; Andรบjar I and Andรบjar III in Jaรฉn; and La Romera, Villanueva del Rey, Encarnaciones, Sol Morรณn, and Los Mangos in Seville. The company also operates five wind farms in the region: Los Llanos in Mรกlaga, La Rabia and El Tesorillo in Cรกdiz, El Almendro in Huelva, and Loma del Capรณn in Granada. Together, these assets bring Naturgyโs installed renewable capacity in Andalusia to 600 MW, making the company one of the most important energy players in the region.
Naturgy maintains a strong long-term commitment to Andalusia through its various business lines and currently supports around 4,000 direct and indirect jobs in the region. In addition to renewable energy generation, the company operates a gas distribution network of more than 5,700 kilometers through its subsidiary Nedgia, supplying gas to more than 90 municipalities across all eight Andalusian provinces.
Naturgy also operates combined cycle power plants in Palos, Mรกlaga, and San Roque, which are essential for maintaining electricity supply and supporting regional competitiveness. In its retail operations, the company serves more than half a million customers in both electricity and gas, reinforcing its position as a major energy provider in Andalusia.
