Enviromena Commissions 10 MWp Solar Farm in Wales Under Innovative Direct Energy Supply Model

Renewable energy company Enviromena has successfully commissioned its 10-MWp Rhigos Road solar farm in South Wales, marking a significant milestone in the company’s expanding renewable energy portfolio and demonstrating a new approach to clean energy supply in the UK market.

Located near Aberdare, the solar facility is equipped with more than 14,000 bifacial photovoltaic modules and is expected to generate approximately 10,600 MWh of renewable electricity annually. The project became operational ahead of the peak summer solar generation period, enabling the facility to maximize energy production during the coming months.

A key feature of the project is its power supply arrangement with energy supplier Evolve Energy. Through a Class A licence-exempt supply model, electricity generated by the solar farm will be supplied directly to businesses under a power purchase agreement (PPA), providing an alternative to traditional wholesale electricity market transactions.

The arrangement reflects evolving regulatory frameworks in the UK that are creating new opportunities for renewable energy developers and corporate energy consumers. By enabling more direct renewable electricity procurement, the model is expected to enhance price stability, improve energy cost management, and support businesses seeking to achieve sustainability objectives.

The Rhigos Road project also highlights Enviromena’s continued growth as an independent power producer (IPP), expanding beyond its traditional engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) activities. The company will retain ownership and operational responsibility for the solar farm, overseeing asset management and maintenance throughout the project’s lifecycle.

Industry stakeholders view the development as an important example of how innovative commercial structures can support renewable energy deployment while increasing access to clean electricity for businesses. As demand for corporate renewable energy sourcing continues to rise, similar direct supply arrangements are expected to play an increasingly important role in the UK’s energy transition.

The commissioning of the solar farm further strengthens Wales’ renewable energy capacity and contributes to the United Kingdom’s broader efforts to decarbonize its power sector, enhance energy security, and accelerate the adoption of sustainable energy solutions.
