The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has introduced a new digital process for renewable energy developers seeking time extensions for project commissioning. According to a recent advisory, all extension requests for projects scheduled to be commissioned after June 1, 2026, must now be submitted through an online platform. The government has clearly stated that physical or offline applications will no longer be accepted.

The move follows the Office Memorandum issued by MNRE on May 25, 2026, which provides guidelines related to compliance with the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) List-II. The memorandum also aims to safeguard investments that developers have already made while ensuring adherence to updated regulatory requirements.

Under the new system, eligible renewable energy developers must submit their requests through the dedicated DCR Portal. The online platform has already been made operational and is available for developers to upload their applications and supporting documents.

The advisory emphasizes that developers must provide all required evidence and documentation as specified under the MNRE guidelines. Since physical submissions will not be entertained, developers have been advised to ensure that every document uploaded to the portal is accurate, complete, detailed, and properly authenticated. Any missing or incorrect information could affect the processing of extension requests.

The digital-only submission process is expected to improve transparency, efficiency, and consistency in evaluating project extension applications. It also supports the government’s broader objective of adopting digital governance practices across the renewable energy sector.

The new requirement applies specifically to developers covered under the eligibility criteria outlined in the May 25 Office Memorandum. Developers are encouraged to submit their applications within the timelines prescribed by MNRE to avoid delays or complications in project implementation.

With this initiative, the government aims to create a more structured and streamlined system for handling project extension requests while ensuring compliance with evolving renewable energy regulations and policy frameworks.
