Ohmium International and InSolare Energy have entered into a partnership to develop a 4 MW green hydrogen project for NLC India Limited, marking another step forward in India’s efforts to build a domestic green hydrogen ecosystem and accelerate industrial decarbonization.
Under the collaboration, Ohmium will supply its India-manufactured Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolyzer technology, while InSolare Energy will serve as the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) partner responsible for integrating the renewable energy and hydrogen production infrastructure.
The project, to be developed at NLC India’s facilities in Neyveli, Tamil Nadu, is expected to produce up to 700 metric tonnes of green hydrogen annually. The hydrogen generated will support multiple applications, including power generation, industrial operations, and mobility-related uses.
According to the companies, the initiative is designed to demonstrate the commercial viability of green hydrogen across diverse end-use sectors while contributing to India’s broader clean energy and decarbonization goals.
The project aligns with the objectives of India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission, which aims to establish the country as a global hub for green hydrogen production and technology development. Industry stakeholders view such projects as critical for creating domestic demand, scaling electrolyzer deployment, and advancing renewable energy integration.
For NLC India, the project represents a further expansion of its clean energy portfolio as the company continues to diversify beyond its traditional thermal power and lignite mining operations. The state-owned enterprise has been actively increasing investments in renewable energy and emerging low-carbon technologies.
The deployment will utilize PEM electrolyzer technology, which is well-suited for integration with renewable energy sources due to its ability to operate efficiently under variable power conditions. This capability enables hydrogen production to be closely aligned with solar and wind energy generation profiles.
The partnership also supports the development of domestic manufacturing capabilities in India’s emerging hydrogen sector. Ohmium’s electrolyzers are manufactured in India, contributing to the country’s efforts to strengthen local supply chains for advanced clean energy technologies.
Industry observers note that the project’s multi-application approach distinguishes it from many early-stage hydrogen initiatives, which typically focus on a single end-use sector. By combining renewable energy generation, electrolyzer deployment, and multiple hydrogen applications, the project is expected to serve as a model for future green hydrogen developments across the country.
The announcement comes as India accelerates investments in hydrogen infrastructure, renewable energy capacity, and low-carbon industrial solutions to support its long-term energy transition objectives.
