Spanish renewable energy company Solaria has been awarded EUR 41 million in state funding to support the development of four agrivoltaic solar projects integrated with battery energy storage systems (BESS) in Spain.
The grants were awarded under government programmes aimed at promoting innovative renewable energy projects that combine clean power generation, energy storage and sustainable land use practices.
The projects will incorporate agrivoltaic technology, enabling agricultural activities to continue alongside solar power generation. The addition of battery energy storage systems is expected to improve grid flexibility and enhance the utilization of renewable energy produced by the facilities.
According to Solaria, the projects align with Spain’s efforts to accelerate the deployment of advanced renewable energy solutions while supporting rural development and efficient land use.
The funding award further strengthens Solaria’s position in the country’s growing solar-plus-storage market as developers increasingly integrate energy storage into renewable energy projects to improve reliability and support the energy transition.
The projects are expected to contribute to Spain’s decarbonization objectives by increasing renewable energy capacity and advancing the adoption of innovative clean energy technologies.
