Aboitiz Power Corporation (AboitizPower) and the Climate Change Commission (CCC) have entered into a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening climate action and supporting the Philippinesโ transition toward a more sustainable and climate-resilient future.
The collaboration was formalized through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), establishing a long-term framework for cooperation in knowledge sharing, capacity building, and research related to the power sector and climate change mitigation and adaptation. The partnership seeks to combine the operational expertise and industry experience of the private sector with government-led climate policies and development frameworks.
By working together, AboitizPower and the CCC aim to generate data-driven insights and policy recommendations that can help address climate challenges while supporting the sustainable growth of the countryโs energy sector. The initiative is also intended to contribute to the implementation of the Philippinesโ National Climate Change Action Plan by aligning industry practices with national climate goals.
Through the agreement, both organizations will collaborate on research initiatives, technical exchanges, and educational programs that promote a deeper understanding of the relationship between energy systems and climate resilience. The partnership is expected to strengthen institutional capabilities and support evidence-based decision-making for climate and energy-related policies.
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Robert Borje, Vice Chairperson and Executive Director of the Climate Change Commission, and Jason Magnaye, First Vice President for External Relations at AboitizPower. The signing ceremony was witnessed by Raul Victor Tan, Executive Vice President of Mapรบa University, and Romell Antonio Cuenca, Deputy Executive Director of the Climate Change Commission.
The signing of the agreement coincided with a two-day Power Systems 101 training program conducted in collaboration with Mapรบa University. The program was designed to provide participants with a practical understanding of the Philippine power sector, helping bridge the gap between policy concepts and the operational realities of energy generation, transmission, and distribution.
By connecting theoretical policy discussions with real-world industry practices, the training aims to support more informed decision-making among stakeholders involved in energy and climate governance. The Power Systems 101 program has gained momentum since its launch in 2025 and has now been successfully conducted for the third time.
Its continued implementation reflects growing interest in developing technical knowledge and strengthening collaboration between government institutions, academic organizations, and private-sector energy companies. The partnership between AboitizPower and the Climate Change Commission highlights the increasing importance of cross-sector collaboration in addressing climate change and advancing sustainable development.
By combining expertise from the energy industry, government agencies, and academic institutions, the initiative is expected to support the development of more effective climate strategies while promoting a resilient, low-carbon energy future for the Philippines.
