India will host the 11th BRICS Energy Ministers’ Meeting on June 25–26, 2026, in Gurugram, Haryana, under its BRICS Chairship 2026. This marks India’s fourth BRICS Chairship, following its previous tenures in 2012, 2016, and 2021. Guided by the overarching theme, “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability (BRICS),” India has adopted “सर्वेषां ऊर्जम्” (Energy for All) as the theme for the Energy Track, emphasizing the collective commitment of BRICS countries toward universal energy access.

BRICS currently comprises Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates. Together, these nations account for nearly half of the global population and approximately 40% of the world’s GDP.

The meeting comes at a critical time as countries seek to balance energy security, affordability, and sustainability while addressing climate change, technological advancements, and rising energy demand. India stated that the priorities of the BRICS Energy Agenda closely align with its national development goals of strengthening energy security, expanding clean energy deployment, improving grid resilience, and ensuring universal access to energy.

Under its presidency, India has structured the BRICS Energy Agenda around three key priorities: Energy Security and Sustainability, Energy Access and Equity, and Technology and Innovation.

The event will also provide India with an opportunity to showcase its progress in developing a sustainable energy ecosystem. Over the past decade, the country has increased its solar power capacity by more than 50 times, deployed over 60 million smart meters, and set a target of achieving 410 GWh of energy storage capacity by 2032.

India has further strengthened its energy infrastructure through the expansion of the national transmission network, development of Green Energy Corridors, implementation of the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), and promotion of regional grid connectivity through initiatives such as One Sun One World One Grid (OSOWOG).

In the biofuels sector, India highlighted the achievement of 20% ethanol blending and the rollout of E85 fuel, containing 80–85% ethanol. These efforts are aimed at diversifying the energy mix, improving energy security, and reducing carbon emissions.

India also underscored its leadership in global clean energy cooperation through initiatives such as the International Solar Alliance and the Global Biofuels Alliance.

As Chair, India intends to advance the priorities of the Global South while fostering practical cooperation among BRICS countries on resilient supply chains, energy security, innovation, and sustainable development.

To support the ministerial discussions, three virtual meetings of Senior Energy Officials have already been conducted. Additionally, BRICS member countries participated in virtual seminars on the role of artificial intelligence in the energy sector and advancements in Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) technologies. These engagements helped build consensus on key priorities and identify opportunities for deeper collaboration.

The programme schedule includes the Fourth Meeting of the BRICS Committee of Senior Energy Officials from June 22–24 in Gurugram, side events on Clean Coal Technologies and Raising Electrical Appliance Standards, and the 11th BRICS Energy Ministers’ Meeting on June 25–26. A virtual BRICS Youth Energy Summit is also scheduled for August 17–18, 2026.

According to the Ministry, the meeting is expected to strengthen BRICS cooperation on energy security, innovation, and sustainable development while advancing collaborative efforts toward secure, affordable, and future-ready energy systems. It will also serve as a platform for India to promote the priorities of the Global South and contribute to shaping an inclusive global energy future.
