Located in Zambia’s Central Province, the project has an installed capacity of 27 MWp and includes a 33 kV/66 kV step-up substation along with two approximately one-kilometre-long 66 kV transmission lines.

The solar facility has been developed using a hydro-solar complementary model by integrating solar power generation with the existing infrastructure of a hydroelectric power station. According to POWERCHINA, it is the first new energy project in Zambia to adopt this approach.

The company stated that the project achieved grid connection 26 days ahead of schedule following the completion of engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning activities. The project team implemented construction planning and workflow coordination throughout the development process to meet project timelines and quality requirements.

The Lunsemfwa Solar PV Project is expected to support Zambia’s efforts to diversify its energy mix by increasing renewable energy generation while complementing existing hydropower resources. The project also strengthens POWERCHINA’s presence in Zambia’s energy sector as the country continues to expand its renewable energy capacity.
