Indian equity markets ended on a positive note on August 6, 2026, with benchmark indices posting modest gains, while green energy and clean mobility stocks witnessed mixed trading across the session. Investor sentiment remained cautious as buying in select large-cap energy companies offset weakness in several renewable energy and battery-related stocks.
The 30-share S&P BSE SENSEX rose 0.48% to close at 78,954.76, reflecting steady buying interest in heavyweight stocks. The broader NIFTY 50 index ended almost unchanged but managed to finish slightly higher, gaining 0.02% to settle at 24,628.50.
Among green energy stocks, Kabra Extrusion emerged as the top performer of the day. The company’s shares climbed 3.67% on the BSE to close at Rs 470.75, while on the NSE the stock gained an even stronger 4.63% to end at Rs 475.45. Reliance Industries also supported overall market sentiment with strong gains. Its shares advanced more than 3.4% on the BSE to Rs 1,325.00 and rose 3.27% on the NSE to close at Rs 1,321.90.
Battery manufacturer Exide Industries also ended the session in positive territory, gaining 1.05% on the BSE to Rs 472.20. Power producer JSW Energy rose 1.79% on the BSE to Rs 570.00, although its shares slipped 0.50% on the NSE. NTPC Green Energy Ltd. recorded a gain of 0.74% to close at Rs 91.30, while Praj Industries also moved higher by up to 0.72%, reflecting selective buying in renewable energy companies.
On the downside, several battery manufacturers and renewable energy firms witnessed profit booking. Amara Raja Energy & Mobility was among the biggest losers, falling 2.04% on the BSE to Rs 920.00 and 1.35% on the NSE to Rs 926.15. Solar equipment manufacturer Websol Energy declined 2.02% on the NSE to close at Rs 93.51.
Indian Energy Exchange also remained under pressure, losing more than 1.1% to settle at Rs 128.00. Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy slipped 1.03% on the BSE to Rs 207.00. Adani Green Energy eased around 0.5% to Rs 1,373.50, while Borosil Renewables declined 0.80% to Rs 555.15. Engineering major Larsen & Toubro traded in a narrow range and closed nearly flat with a marginal gain of 0.05% at Rs 4,050.00.
Overall, the trading session reflected stock-specific movements in the green energy sector, with strong gains in select large-cap companies balancing mild corrections in several mid-cap renewable energy and battery stocks. Investors continued to remain selective as the market looked for fresh triggers amid ongoing sector consolidation.
