ENGIE Announces Leadership Changes for Southeast Asia and Asia Pacific Supply & Energy Management Business

ENGIE has announced a leadership transition across its Southeast Asia operations and Supply & Energy Management (SEM) Asia Pacific business following the departure of Varun Gujral, who has played a key role in expanding the company’s regional energy trading and low-carbon energy operations over the past 14 years.

Effective 1 July 2026, Jacques Boonen has been appointed Country Manager for Southeast Asia, in addition to his current responsibilities as Managing Director of Local Energy Infrastructures Southeast Asia. Jules Dufournier has been appointed Managing Director of Supply & Energy Management Asia Pacific.

Varun Gujral, a founding member of ENGIE’s Supply & Energy Management business in Asia Pacific since 2012, served in the dual role of Country Manager for Southeast Asia and CEO of Supply & Energy Management Asia Pacific. During his tenure, he led the expansion of the company’s regional trading platform, including the establishment and growth of operations in strategic markets such as Japan and India, while strengthening ENGIE’s capabilities in energy trading and the energy transition.

Jacques Boonen joined ENGIE in 2008 and has held senior leadership positions across Europe, North America, and Asia. Since 2025, he has led the company’s Local Energy Infrastructures business in Southeast Asia, focusing on expanding low-carbon infrastructure and integrated decarbonisation solutions across the region.

Jules Dufournier brings more than 25 years of experience in global energy markets. Since joining ENGIE in 2002, he has held several leadership positions across Europe and Asia Pacific, contributing to the growth of the company’s Supply & Energy Management business.

According to ENGIE, the leadership appointments reflect the company’s continued commitment to strengthening its presence in Southeast Asia and the wider Asia Pacific region while supporting customers and stakeholders in advancing the clean energy transition through low-carbon energy solutions and energy management services.
