Turkey has taken another major step toward expanding its renewable energy sector by launching a new tender under its Renewable Energy Resource Area (YEKA) program. The latest auction offers a total of 2.4 GW of renewable energy capacity, creating fresh opportunities for developers to invest in large-scale wind and solar power projects. The initiative is part of the country’s broader strategy to increase clean energy generation, reduce dependence on imported fuels, and strengthen long-term energy security.
The tender has been divided into 21 separate auctions. Of the total capacity, 1.5 GW has been allocated to seven onshore wind projects, while the remaining 900 MW will be awarded through 14 solar projects. Companies interested in participating in the bidding process must submit their applications by October 13, 2026.
To ensure a balanced and competitive auction, the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources has established both maximum and minimum electricity prices. The highest bid price allowed for both wind and solar projects is EUR 0.055 per kilowatt-hour. The minimum price has been set at EUR 0.0325 per kWh for solar projects and EUR 0.035 per kWh for wind projects. If bidding reaches these minimum levels, the competition will shift to a contribution-based system, where developers compete by offering financial contributions for each megawatt of installed capacity.
The tender also introduces a flexible commercial structure aimed at improving project economics. Successful solar developers will be allowed to sell electricity in the open market for up to 60 months before their long-term contracts begin, while wind developers will receive a 72-month market period. Once this initial phase ends, each project will move to a 20-year power purchase agreement, providing stable and predictable revenues based on the final auction price.
The projects are spread across different regions of Turkey to support balanced renewable energy development. Ankara has received the largest allocation for solar capacity at 370 MW, while Balikesir leads the wind segment with 685 MW.
