SMA Recognized as Tier 1 PV Inverter Supplier for 2026 by S&P Global Energy

SMA Solar Technology AG (SMA) has been recognized as a “Tier 1 PV Inverter Supplier 2026” by S&P Global Energy, reflecting the company’s strong market presence, financial stability, and sustainability performance in the global photovoltaic inverter industry.

The recognition was announced in S&P Global Energy’s report, “Tier 1 Cleantech Companies – PV Inverter Suppliers: 2026,” which evaluates manufacturers using a transparent, data-driven methodology. The assessment is intended to provide customers, installers, project developers, and investors with an additional benchmark when selecting technology partners for photovoltaic projects.

Unlike a conventional ranking, the Tier 1 classification identifies companies that meet defined performance thresholds across multiple business and operational criteria. To qualify, companies must exceed the required benchmark in at least four of six assessment categories.

According to the report, SMA achieved the required standard in market presence, market share, company size, and sustainability, placing it among 12 companies that qualified from a total of 30 PV inverter suppliers assessed.

S&P Global Energy’s evaluation is based on information gathered from corporate and annual reports, regulatory filings, publicly available company data, interviews, and surveys. The methodology also incorporates S&P Global’s Sustainability Assessment and RiskGauge to evaluate companies’ financial performance and long-term business resilience.

Commenting on the recognition, Jürgen Reinert, Chief Executive Officer of SMA Solar Technology AG, said the Tier 1 classification reinforces the company’s position as a reliable, sustainable, and long-term technology partner for the solar industry. He noted that for utility-scale photovoltaic projects with long operating lifetimes, factors such as a manufacturer’s market position, financial strength, and sustainability performance are as important as product quality and technological performance.
