Delectrik to Deploy India’s First 100 MWh Vanadium Flow Battery Project at Khavda Solar Park

Delectrik Systems has announced the deployment of India’s first utility-scale Vanadium Redox Flow Battery (VRFB) energy storage project with a capacity of 100 MWh. The project has been awarded by NTPC Renewable Energy Limited (NTPC REL), a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC Limited, in collaboration with Bondada Engineering Limited, an infrastructure solutions provider.

The large-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) will be installed at the Khavda Solar Park in Gujarat, which is being developed as one of the world’s largest renewable energy parks with a planned generation capacity of 30 GW by 2029. The project is scheduled for deployment in 2027 and will support the integration of renewable energy into the power grid through long-duration energy storage capabilities.

The project will utilise Delectrik’s non-containerised Vanadium Redox Flow Battery architecture, designed for large commercial, industrial, and utility-scale applications. Unlike conventional lithium-ion battery systems, flow batteries offer advantages such as longer operational life, enhanced safety, and suitability for large-scale energy storage applications.

Delectrik had previously commissioned a 3 MWh Vanadium Redox Flow Battery installation at NTPC’s facility in Greater Noida in 2025, marking one of the company’s earlier deployments of the technology.

Commenting on the project, Dr. Vishal Mittal, Founder and CEO of Delectrik Systems, said, “The first utility-scale Flow Battery project is a milestone not just for the company but for the country as a whole. This will be India’s first non-lithium utility-scale BESS project and the first project of this scale to be fully designed, engineered, and manufactured in India.”

Delectrik aims to build an order pipeline of at least 1 GWh of flow battery capacity over the next 12 months across India, Australia, ASEAN markets, Africa, and other international regions.

The company has also established two wholly owned subsidiaries — Delectrik Resources Pvt Ltd (DRPL) and Delectrik Esaas Pvt Ltd (DEPL) — to strengthen its energy storage ecosystem. DRPL is focused on upstream activities, including Vanadium Oxide production and future vanadium asset development, while DEPL plans to offer Energy Storage as a Service (ESaaS) solutions for commercial and industrial customers, including data centres.

With increasing renewable energy penetration, long-duration energy storage technologies are expected to play a critical role in ensuring grid stability and enabling large-scale renewable energy integration. Delectrik’s 100 MWh VRFB project represents a significant step towards expanding non-lithium energy storage solutions in India’s clean energy transition.
