EnerSynk Group has achieved a major milestone for its planned 500 MW solar power project in Zambia by securing important regulatory and legal approvals. The approvals were granted by Zambia’s Energy Regulation Board and the Office of the Attorney General, allowing the project to move forward after an extensive review process.
The approval follows nearly nine months of discussions between the company and the relevant authorities. During this period, both sides held eight formal negotiation rounds and carefully reviewed close to 400 contractual provisions. With the legal framework now approved, the project has entered its next stage of development.
The upcoming phase will include a detailed bankable feasibility study, a grid impact assessment, environmental and social impact studies, and the completion of financial arrangements required before construction begins. These steps are expected to strengthen the project’s technical and financial readiness.
The 500 MW solar power plant is planned to operate for 25 years and is expected to deliver significant economic and environmental value. According to project estimates, the facility could generate between $2.8 billion and $3.7 billion in gross revenue over its lifetime, depending on the final power purchase agreement tariff.
The project is also expected to make a strong contribution to climate goals by reducing carbon emissions. It is estimated to prevent around 835,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year, resulting in more than 21 million tonnes of avoided emissions during its 25-year operational life.
Although the solar plant will be developed in Zambia, EnerSynk Group will oversee the project’s strategic coordination and commercial activities from its headquarters in Budapest, Hungary. The company described the initiative as an example of successful cooperation between Europe and Africa in advancing clean energy development.
The project also supports Zambia’s national renewable energy ambitions. The country aims to expand its renewable energy capacity to 10 GW by 2030 to address electricity shortages and meet the rising energy demand from industries, including the country’s growing copper mining sector. With key approvals now secured, EnerSynk Group will focus on engaging international investors and technical partners to bring the project closer to construction.
