The rankings evaluate global BESS integrators and solar inverter manufacturers based on their performance during 2025 across criteria including technology maturity, research and development (R&D), safety, financial strength, project execution, supply chain resilience, environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance, and vertical integration.

According to Wood Mackenzie, the BESS ranking focuses on suppliers offering factory-assembled, AC-integrated battery energy storage solutions that combine batteries, power conversion systems (PCS), battery management systems (BMS), thermal management, and control systems into a single AC-connected product.

The solar inverter manufacturer ranking is based on factors including manufacturing experience, production capacity, technology, supply volumes, financial performance, ESG metrics, after-sales capabilities, R&D investment, and third-party certifications.

Wood Mackenzie also awarded Sungrow a Grade A rating, reflecting its performance across technology development, project execution, safety, financial stability, and supply chain capabilities.

The report notes that utilities, independent power producers (IPPs), and project developers are increasingly prioritising suppliers with proven capabilities across the entire project lifecycle, from system design and commissioning to long-term operations and maintenance, as energy storage projects continue to increase in scale and complexity.
