SJVN has successfully achieved the Commercial Operation Date (COD) of its 75 MW Jamui Solar Power Project in Bihar, marking another milestone in the company’s renewable energy expansion. The project has been developed through SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), a wholly owned subsidiary of SJVN, following a tender floated by the Bihar Renewable Energy Development Agency (BREDA).
Located near Village Hadhadiya, Kakanchaur, in Jamui district, the solar project has been developed across approximately 300 acres of outright-purchased land at an estimated cost of ₹342 crore. The project is expected to generate around 90 million units of electricity during its first year of operation and approximately 3,522 million units over its 25-year operating period.
The tariff for electricity generated from the project has been fixed at ₹2.96 per unit. The power produced will be supplied to the state of Bihar, supporting the availability of affordable and clean electricity for consumers.
According to SJVN, the project is also expected to contribute to local economic development through employment generation. It has created approximately 15–20 direct employment opportunities and around 50–100 indirect employment opportunities, supporting green jobs and economic activity in the surrounding area.
The commissioning of the Jamui solar project is expected to contribute to India’s renewable energy expansion and its target of achieving 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030. The project is estimated to reduce approximately 82,250.74 tonnes of carbon emissions during its operational life, supporting national decarbonisation objectives and climate commitments.
The successful commissioning further strengthens SGEL’s efforts to develop renewable energy projects across India. It also aligns with SJVN’s broader vision of becoming a leading renewable energy company.
With the addition of the 75 MW Jamui project, SJVN has further expanded its renewable energy footprint in Bihar while supporting the state’s clean energy requirements. The project represents another step toward increasing renewable power generation, reducing carbon emissions and contributing to India’s transition toward a cleaner and more sustainable energy system.
