Sungrow has been selected by renewable energy independent power producer (IPP) Verano Energy to supply its PowerTitan 2.0 energy storage system (ESS) for the Observatorio project in Chile.
The agreement covers the deployment of a 152 MW/606 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) with a four-hour duration, along with a 25-year Long-Term Service Agreement (LTSA). The project is expected to strengthen Chile’s power system flexibility and support greater integration of renewable energy.
The Observatorio project will combine a 135 MW solar photovoltaic plant, equipped with Sungrow SG350HX-20 inverters, with the utility-scale BESS. The storage system will enable electricity generated by the solar plant to be stored and dispatched during periods of higher electricity demand.
BESS to Support Chile’s Renewable Energy Integration
The integration of energy storage is expected to help Verano Energy maximise the value of its solar generation while addressing power system flexibility requirements. The project will also support the optimisation of renewable energy generation and help reduce curtailment.
Tomás Anuch, Chief Operating Officer of Verano Energy, said the integration of storage will allow the company to maximise its solar resources and provide greater flexibility to Chile’s power system. He added that partnering with Sungrow will support the development of the project to high performance and reliability standards.
The Observatorio project marks another collaboration between Verano Energy and Sungrow as Chile continues to emerge as a major market for utility-scale BESS development in Latin America.
Sungrow to Provide 25-Year Service Agreement
In addition to supplying the PowerTitan 2.0 BESS, Sungrow will provide a 25-year LTSA covering the system’s operational availability, performance and reliability throughout its lifecycle.
Gonzalo Feito, Regional Director of Sungrow LATAM, said the agreement reinforces Sungrow’s commitment to developing high-performance energy infrastructure and supporting Chile’s energy transition.
The companies said the project will contribute to the reliability and flexibility of Chile’s power system while supporting the country’s transition towards a more sustainable energy mix.
