Birla Institute of Management Technology (BIMTECH), an AACSB-accredited business school in India, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Institute of Actuaries of India (IAI) to strengthen professional learning and develop capabilities in emerging areas of professional development.
The MoU was signed by Dr. Pankaj Priya, Dean & Deputy Director, BIMTECH, and Dr. Ruchita Verma, Executive Director, IAI. The partnership will focus on combining BIMTECH’s expertise in management education with IAI’s capabilities in actuarial science and professional development.
Under the collaboration, the two institutions plan to jointly develop and deliver two to three certification programmes over the next year. The programmes will focus on emerging areas that are increasingly relevant to businesses, finance, risk management and sustainability.
Carbon Credits and Carbon Markets Programme
The first initiative under the partnership is an Online Certification Training Programme on Carbon Credits & Carbon Markets, aimed at working professionals, corporate executives, sustainability practitioners and other professionals seeking to understand the rapidly evolving carbon economy.
The programme has been conceptualised and designed under the leadership of Dr. Prabina Rajib, Director, BIMTECH, who will also lead key sessions covering global carbon markets and related mechanisms.
The curriculum will cover areas including the EU Emissions Trading System (EU-ETS), Perform, Achieve & Trade (PAT), Energy Saving Certificates (ESCerts), CORSIA and Carbon Futures.
Dr. Prabina Rajib said the transition towards a low-carbon economy is increasingly influencing business, finance and risk-related decisions. She added that the programme aims to help professionals understand the functioning of carbon markets while examining the opportunities and risks associated with their evolution.
Programme to Cover Climate Finance and Carbon Market Mechanisms
The online certification programme is scheduled to run from September 19 to October 10, 2026. It is intended for a broad professional audience, including actuaries and actuarial students, finance and investment professionals, risk managers, ESG and sustainability professionals, policy specialists, consultants, corporate professionals and students interested in climate finance and sustainability.
The programme will bring together concepts related to global climate frameworks, carbon market mechanisms, net-zero calculations, climate and sustainability risks, voluntary carbon markets and compliance frameworks.
According to IAI Executive Director Dr. Ruchita Verma, the changing climate and sustainability landscape is creating new opportunities for professionals with analytical and risk-management capabilities. She said the partnership with BIMTECH will support the development of learning programmes aligned with emerging professional requirements.
Focus on Future-Ready Professional Capabilities
The collaboration is aimed at bridging conceptual knowledge with practical applications through an interactive online learning format. By combining perspectives from management education and actuarial science, BIMTECH and IAI seek to help professionals better understand the implications of carbon markets for business and financial decision-making.
The institutions said the partnership is intended to contribute to the development of a future-ready professional ecosystem capable of addressing the opportunities and challenges arising from the global transition towards a low-carbon economy.
