RWE has secured contracts for two onshore wind projects with a combined capacity of 119 MW in the latest auction conducted by Germany’s Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur).
Subject to final investment decisions, both projects are scheduled to be commissioned in 2028 and will contribute to RWE’s continued expansion of its renewable energy portfolio in Germany.
The larger of the two developments is the 84 MW Jüchen 3 greenfield wind project, planned on recultivated land at the former Garzweiler open-cast mine in the Rhein-Kreis Neuss district of North Rhine-Westphalia.
The second project involves the repowering of RWE’s existing Seedorf wind farm in the Rotenburg (Wümme) district of Lower Saxony. Under the proposed development, five existing wind turbines with a combined capacity of 9 MW will be replaced by five modern turbines providing a total installed capacity of 35 MW.
The repowering project will therefore increase the wind farm’s installed capacity by 26 MW while maintaining the same number of turbines.
The auction success supports RWE’s strategy of expanding renewable energy capacity in its domestic German market as electricity demand increases and the country advances its energy transition.
RWE currently operates approximately 770 MW of onshore wind capacity across Germany. The company continues to develop wind and solar projects throughout the country as part of its renewable energy growth strategy.
The two newly awarded projects, subject to investment approval and successful development, are expected to add further capacity to RWE’s German onshore wind portfolio from 2028.
